EST launches free online carbon footprint tool

Energy Saving Trust (EST) has developed a new online service which provides organisations with an accurate business transport carbon footprint, as well as recommendations for next steps to help reduce costs and emissions. ‘Fleet Health Check Online’ is straightforward to use. Organisations simply need to answer a few questions about their fleet. The service is free and EST’s advice is completely impartial. Funded by the Department for Transport, EST has worked with hundreds of organisations of all sizes to help them reduce their carbon footprint and save money. VOSA warns of ‘reality check ahead’ for van operators at FTA conference

VOSA has warned van operators that those not complying with regulations will be targeted by the authorities. Gordon Macdonald, who is VOSA’s head of enforcement policy, issued the warning during his keynote speech at the first Freight Transport Association Van Excellence Conference in Sheffield. He said that VOSA was determined to improve van operational standards and makes no secret of its intention to significantly ramp up the number of roadside inspections and other enforcement activity. He also praised the Van Excellence scheme, describing it as “an extremely good example of where the industry can take responsibility for itself”, adding that accredited operators of the Van Excellence scheme were recognised by VOSA for demonstrating good practice in the industry. Car insurance prices starting to fall, says AA

The cost of motor insurance has fallen by 4.1% over the last year, according to an AA survey of the cheapest deals on the market. A typical premium among the most competitive products dropped by 1.4% in the first three months of the year, it found. It said that changes in the law and competition among insurers had pushed down prices, and it expects further falls as new reforms come into force. The AA Insurance Shoparound survey takes an average premium for a standard set of risks from the five cheapest quotes from insurers and price comparison websites. This has shown large rises in insurance costs over a three year period, but has now started to register a fall. The average premium among the cheapest deals stood at £746.75, the survey found.
