New plug-in Mitsubishi Outlander to cost same as diesel

Mitsubishi’s new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has gone on sale in the UK costing the same as the diesel Outlander but offering emissions of just 44g/km and an official 148mpg. Priced from £28,249 for the entry-level GX3h after the Government’s £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant, the Outlander PHEV costs the same as the Outlander diesel GX3 auto, making it the only plug-in hybrid in the UK market that does not carry a price premium for its hybrid technology. The Outlander PHEV combines a 94bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with electric motors on the front and rear axles, giving a cruising range of 512 miles whilst it can travel up to 32.5 miles on electric power only. Electric pool cars make business sense for fleets

Forrest, the social housing regeneration specialist, has added two electric vehicles to its fleet following an extensive fleet review.  The two Renault ZOEs will be based at Forrest’s headquarters at Dodd Lane, Bolton and will be available to staff as pool cars during the day, and the intention is that they will be used for shorter journeys and site visits in the local area. Average pump prices are 13ppl lower than if the Government had implemented the fuel duty escalator, and will be 20ppl lower by the end of the Parliament. The Treasury says that this means that it currently costs the typical motorist £7 less to fill up their tank, and will cost £11 less by the end of the Parliament. ACFO chairman Damian James said: “The move gives some stability to fleets in their budget forecasting and is welcome at a time when the green shoots of economic recovery are sprouting.” In total, the Government…

‘My Electric Avenue’ community electric car trials are underway

The £9m My Electric Avenue project, hosted by Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD), and led by EA Technology, is testing the impact of electric vehicles on the local electricity network. The project has announced the communities that have been successful in applying to take part in its ‘Technical Trials’, and unveil details of the next stage of customer-based research, the ‘Social Trials’. Almost 2,000 registrations for the Technical Trials were received in the first six months of the project, with the successful communities coming from Chiswick, Marlow, South Gosforth, South Shields, Wylam, Chineham and Whiteley. That’s seven clusters, of ten people in each, which means that the targets set for the project by Ofgem have been achieved four months ahead of schedule. Due to this great progress, Ofgem has agreed to early release of project funding, which means that these clusters can…
