“White van man” is increasingly being targeted by criminals running dangerous crash for cash fraud rings, according to new research conducted by anti-fraud firm APU. According to APU, light commercial vehicles have been involved in almost a third of all deliberate collisions caused by the gangs in a worrying trend that has emerged in the last 12 months. The announcement comes as new data shows that crash for cash incidents increased by 51% in 2013 to reach a record level, according to claims fraud data from Aviva, which is calling for stronger sentences to deter fraudsters. Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in available for just £269+vat a month

Mitsubishi’s new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) is available to lease for the same cost as the diesel Outlander but offering emissions of just 44g/km and an official 148mpg – Just £269 a month +VAT Priced from £28,249 for the entry-level GX3h after the Government’s £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant, the Outlander PHEV costs the same as the Outlander diesel GX3 auto, making it the only plug-in hybrid in the UK market that does not carry a price premium for its hybrid technology. The Outlander PHEV combines a 94bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with electric motors on the front and rear axles, giving a cruising range of 512 miles whilst it can travel up to 32.5 miles on electric power only. £5 million available for Local Authorities to green their fleets

The Government is making £5 million available to local authorities and other public bodies to convert their vehicles to run on cleaner fuels or fit pollution-busting technology to treat exhaust fumes. The Clean Vehicle Technology Fund aims to improve air quality in towns and cities across England. Each authority can apply for up to a maximum of £500,000 for vehicles that are used predominantly on local roads with poor air quality. Transport Minister Baroness Kramer said: “This is our latest step in a major programme of measures to make our air cleaner. “We are raising the bar and making sure that the ongoing trend of improving air quality continues. “This £5 million will mean less harmful exhaust fumes from buses, and other vehicles, in some of our most polluted urban areas. “This funding will also secure jobs and growth in the industries delivering the…

Petrol and diesel advisory fuel rates unchanged

The latest Advisory Fuel Rates (AFRs) from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), have come into effect (from June 1), with petrol and diesel rates unchanged. The rate for LPG vehicles with an engine size greater than 2,000cc has decreased from 17p to 16p, cancelling out the 1p increase implemented from March 1, 2014. For one month from the date of change, employers may use either the previous or new current rates to reimburse drivers for fuel used on business journeys. New rates in bold, previous rates in brackets.
