Chancellor’s announcement positive for the UK market, says LPG board

UKLPG, the trade association of the UK liquefied petroleum gas industry, has welcomed the Chancellor’s commitment to maintain the fuel duty rate for LPG autogas until September 2015. While it would have liked a longer-term commitment to a freeze on fuel duty, the clear 10-year duty trajectory, announced by the Chancellor in his Autumn Statement, should give the consumer confidence to convert to this low carbon, low cost transport fuel. Lisa Thomson, director of communications and external affairs at UKLPG, said: “UKLPG welcomes today’s confirmation that consumers will not suddenly be faced with a fuel duty increase. This has cleared the way for more UK motorists to convert their vehicles with confidence, as LPG autogas remains the cheapest, most widely available alternative fuel on the market. “LPG autogas has a full infrastructure already in place in the UK. With a network of over 1,400…

ACFO welcomes clarity on company car tax

ACFO has welcomed the clarity given by the chancellor on future levels of company car tax, after lobbying HM Revenue and Customs and HM Treasury. Company car benefit-in-kind tax rates up to April 5, 2019 were revealed in Wednesday’s Budget by George Osborne. ACFO chairman Damian James (pictured) said: “At meetings with HM Treasury and HM Revenue and Customs’ officials, ACFO has repeatedly asked for benefit-in-kind tax rates to be known for what, in the vast majority of cases, will be the entire operating cycle of a vehicle. “Historically we have only known benefit-in-kind tax rates for three years, and occasionally four years, in advance. “However, as businesses have moved to longer replacement cycles with company cars driven into a fourth and even a fifth year in some cases, employees have been left in the dark as to what their benefit-in-kind tax bills will…

UK passes EU new car emissions landmark two years early

The average new car in the UK now emits 128.3g/km CO2 – 3.6% less than last year and already ahead of the 2015 EU-wide fleet average target of 130g/km CO2. The figures have been reported by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which says the fall in emissions has been driven by increased fuel efficiency of new cars, helped by consumer movement towards more economical cars. Registrations of cars in the Mini segment almost doubled against 2012, while the Supermini segment also showed solid growth. A new car is 20% more efficient than the average car in use, so consumers will notice a real difference when replacing their old car. Meanwhile figures for alternatively fuelled vehicles (AFVs) show a threefold increase in the number of plug-in models on the market in the last three years alone. Registrations of AFVs grew 17.6% to…
