Fleets to save millions as government cuts red tape on V5C & tax discs

Fleet operators are set to save time and money significantly as the Government announces changes to cut red tape in a number of areas. Announced by Roads Minister Stephen Hammond, the changes include confirmation of the Autumn Statement announcement that the paper tax disc will be axed, saving business and taxpayers around £14m each year. In addition, drivers and fleets will now be able to make changes to address and vehicle details for vehicle tax online. Meanwhile from 2015 fleets will be able to request V5C electronic vehicle registration documents when they need them, rather than having to store paper copies, saving companies around £3m each year. Electric pool cars make business sense for fleets

Forrest, the social housing regeneration specialist, has added two electric vehicles to its fleet following an extensive fleet review.  The two Renault ZOEs will be based at Forrest’s headquarters at Dodd Lane, Bolton and will be available to staff as pool cars during the day, and the intention is that they will be used for shorter journeys and site visits in the local area. The addition of the vehicles follows the firm’s decision to update its fleet following an internal review that showed a switch to newer, greener models would produce considerable cost and emission savings. Drivers warned to avoid unofficial Congestion Charge websites following ASA ruling Transport for London (TfL) is warning drivers again to make sure they are using the official London Congestion Charge website to pay the charge online rather than using other sites that charge a premium. The call follows an Adverting Standards Agency ruling that one site –paylondoncongestion.co.uk – was ‘likely to lead consumers to believe that the web page was an official method of paying the London congestion charge and was affiliated with TfL’. The ASA investigated and upheld three complaints relating to the site misrepresenting a link with TfL and not making clear the fees it levied.
